Process, Planning & FAQ
Time: Expect ~3.5 days labor for a small kitchen, ~5 days for a medium sized kitchen, and up to ~10 days for a large kitchen. Additional time may be required if the cabinet faces and frame need to smoothed with wood grain fillers. We seal all kitchen entry and exit points with plastic. Floors and non-paintable surfaces are protected with rosin paper and plastic sheeting.
Prep: Cabinet doors are labeled. Hardware is removed. The cabinet doors are then taken off site unless there is space to spray them and store on location. The frame and doors are sanded semi-smooth with woven silicon carbide pads. Deep stains are removed with cabinet cleaner.
Paint: Frames can be sprayed if there is adequate ventilation in the kitchen. If we do not have a window or a way to exhaust fumes we will tip and roll with a brush and roller. The initial primer coat takes 24 hours to dry. Finish coats can be applied within 24 hours.
Products: We use shellac primer and either 2 coats of specially formulated urethane cabinet paint or 1 coat of waterborne paint with an added catalyst. Cabinets can be lightly used 3 days after painting. A full cure and hardening takes up to 2 weeks.
